Consists of six small books entitled, "The Log - Book of a Motor Car." The Accident and Liability Department of the Aetna Life Insurance Company published these little books for automobile owners to record mileage, costs and accident information, if any. This collection documents various excursions taken by Mr. Hickmott. His notations consist of the towns passed through, odometer readings, mileage and travel time between towns, time of day, interesting incidents, passengers, gasoline and maintenance expenses and occasional candid remarks. The first four volumes also contain black and white snapshots of the cars, drivers, passengers, and places.

William J. Hickmott, Jr. was born on February 6, 1889 in Hartford, the son of William, Sr. and Hattie Safford Hickmott. His father was a long-time employee of the Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company. After graduating from Hartford Public High School in 1907, William Jr. joined the Aetna Insurance Company.
